Stance for Mixed Martial artists.

A Fighters stance is how you stand and position your body when fighting .You have to have a solid stance which will allow you to change between striking and take-downs with ease. It also has to allow you to defend strongly against strikes and allow you to defend your opponents attempts to take you down. You have to practice your stance so as to transit between striking and grappling easily. Now the most important bit is you have to keep your hands up to stop you self getting knocked out. When you throw a punch you need to keep your other had up, keep your chin tucked and shrug you shoulders to protect your chin. Remember it doesn't take much of a punch directly on your chin to knock anyone out. Also you have to draw your punching hand back as fast as you punch out. Working on pulling your punches back quickly will speed up your boxing all over.
Try and keep your feet shoulder width apart at all times if they are too close or too wide the your base wont be solid and you opponent can topple you over and you are just looking to get knocked out or taken down. If you move left move your left leg first then follow with your right and same with moving right, move right foot and then left foot .Take smaller quicker steps rather than big steps. And vary the direction you move in.If you always move in one direction then you opponent will notice and he will have a leg kick or punch waiting for you at some stage. Don't ever be predictable in the ring at any stage.
Fighting is a rapid game and you not going to be able to just stay in your best stance all the time, so you need to have balance. You need to be able to be solid and balanced between movements and when you are been attacked. So practice your balance. Use wobble boards, do balance exercises like one legged movements etc so that you sense of balance is highly developed that way you will be prepared for everything. Practice all movement so to left and right front and back and up and down, Crouch down by bending your knees rather than bending over at your waist .This keeps you in a strong position when going up and down. You should drill your stance as much as every other skill.
